Practice Tips (from www.HarryWatters.com)
In reviewing Harry Watters' website, I found Harry's posted "tricks" to make the most of limited practice time, something we can all find helpful:
- Keep a detailed practice journal.
- Turn off the phone. The need for total concentration is essential.
- Practice in short increments of 25-45 minutes throughout the day.
- Include "toys" in your sessions, such as a metronome and a chromatic tuner (to check your intervals at a slow tempo). Also, use a recording device, as the act of listening back to yourself playing is the best teacher of all. Make sure to listen for pitch, technical accuracy, tone quality, and musicality.
